Not Your Average Noodle- Send A Copy To A Prisoner
Not Your Average Noodle is an act of service compiled by prisoners for the benefit of prisoners. Cooking well in prison is an act of resistance – it is combat literature in the sense that each moment of imprisonment assaults the psyche and attempts to break your will. Those who remain unbroken are viewed as threats to oppressive forces. We hope this tool helps you construct a space full of joy through food despite your circumstances.
Our primary goal with each recipe is to provide those brief moments when people behind bars forget their woes and utter, “Mmmm, this tastes like the streets...” A fair question is, “Does it really though?” The answer is, “Hell yeah! Check the reviews.” We know this work of love may find its way into the hands of some of you who don’t know what it’s like to attempt culinary arts behind bars. We encourage you to take liberty with these recipes; make them your own and alter them to your taste buds – which is what we are constantly doing.
We thank you for choosing to go on this food journey with us. Every copy purchased outside allows us to send a copy free of charge to the PA Prison system.
This is a full-color, gloss cover, 67-page, saddle-stitched cookbook. By The Taste Buds: Jon “D-Boi” Brown, R. Ya’iyr Carter, and Pierre “Polo” Pinson.
This purchase allows us to send a copy to a person incarcerated in the state of PA. Please note their name, inmate #, and SCI name if you'd like this sent to a specific prisoner. If no name is noted, the book will be donated to a prisoner via a local Books to Prisoners Program.
If you or someone you know is currently incarcerated, would like a copy of the cookbook and is unable to purchase one, you can reach out to the following books to prisoners programs to request a donated copy of NYAN:
